Empowering the Future: The Centre for Analytics at IIM Bodh Gaya

About the Centre for Analytics

In alignment with its mission to develop mindful business leaders with a global perspective, the Indian Institute of Management Bodh Gaya (IIMBG) established the Center for Analytics as a core strategic pillar. Recognizing that modern decision-making is increasingly data-driven, the Center serves as a hub for academic excellence, high-impact research, and industry-aligned executive education. Guided by a distinguished faculty team, the Center bridges the gap between theoretical data science and practical business applications.

Leadership and Faculty Expertise

The Center’s success is driven by a multidisciplinary team of experts who integrate analytics into the broader management curriculum. Key faculty members driving these initiatives include:

  • Dr. Samant Saurabh
  • Dr. Madan Lal Yadav
  • Dr. Raghunathan Krishnan Kumar
  • Dr. Charu Naithani
  • Dr. Supriya Kumar Ghatak
  • Dr. Manali Chaterjee
  • Dr. Boudhayan Ganguly

Global Platforms and Thought Leadership

A flagship achievement of the Center was the organization of the International Conference on Data Analytics and Cybersecurity (DACS 2024). This event positioned IIM Bodh Gaya at the forefront of global discourse, exploring the critical intersection of big data, AI, and digital security. This aligns with the institute's strategic goal of strengthening international opportunities and experiences for students. The papers were published in Springer LNEE conference proceedings.

Executive Education and Professional Impact

The Center has been instrumental in democratizing AI and Machine Learning (ML) expertise. In 2023, the Center launched the Executive Certification Program on AI and ML for Business in collaboration with Times Now.

Additionally, the Center has integrated AI/ML sessions into various Management Development Programs (MDPs) for diverse sectors:

  • Public Safety: Training for the Police Department on data-driven policing.
  • Healthcare: Specialized sessions for doctors at IGIMS to improve diagnostic accuracy through ML.
  • Resource Management: Analytics modules for the Water Resources Department (WRD) to optimize state-level planning.
  • BIPARD, CM Udyami, RAMP

Strategic Research Emphasis

SDGs and Collaboration The Center has refined its research focus to align with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, specifically focusing on SDG 4 (Quality Education) and SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities). By prioritizing these areas, the Center ensures that data analytics serves a higher social purpose.

  • Collaborative Research: The Center is in the process of maintainining an active collaboration with the Center of Excellence (CoE) in AI at IIT Patna for high-level knowledge exchange.
  • Advanced Tooling: Faculty and students utilize a robust suite of software, including Python, SPSS, MATLAB, R, Excel, and Power BI, to augment research activities. We are also in the process of procuring AI tools like Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini and other AI Tools.

Internal Software Development and "Vibe Coding"

A unique aspect of the Center is its role in developing internal digital infrastructure using "vibe coding" (AI-assisted development). These projects focus on a student life cycle ERP powered by a centralized database, featuring:

  • Institute Course Scheduling Software: Automating complex academic calendars.
  • Automated Section Distribution: Using AI to distribute students into sections based on multiple diverse dimensions.
  • "No Dues" Website: Streamlining graduation clearances for students.
  • Functional Modules: Dedicated systems student lifecycle management from admission to convocation.
  • Course and Faculty Feedback software: This software automates the faculty and course feedback.

Curriculum Innovation and Emerging Tech

In line with the goal to "incorporate mainstream data-driven decision-making into the curriculum", the Center emphasizes AI, ML, and cybersecurity applications in business.

  • Agentic AI: The Center has entered into an MoU with an Agentic AI company to explore autonomous AI agents.
  • Strategic Procurement: Ongoing procurement of cutting-edge AI software ensures that students work with the latest industry tools.
Entrepreneurship: The Center works with the Incubation Center to provide IP and digital marketing support for tech-driven startups.

Conclusion

The Data Analytics Center at IIM Bodh Gaya has evolved into a powerhouse of innovation. Through conferences like DACS 2024, specialized MDPs, and a research focus on SDG 4 and 10, the Center fulfills its mandate to enhance academic excellence. Under the guidance of its expert faculty, it continues to prepare "mindful leaders" who are socially responsible, ethically grounded, and technologically unparalleled.
