Two-phase programme implemented to promote hygiene awareness among schoolgirls.
The Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Bodh Gaya conducted Pankhudi: Happy Periods, a menstrual hygiene awareness programme, reaching over 300 schoolgirls in the region.
The initiative was led by Pragati, the CSR Committee of IIM Bodh Gaya, under the guidance of Dr. Vinita Sahay, Director, IIM Bodh Gaya, and Prof. Suresh K.G., Chairperson, CSR Committee, who oversaw the programme from ideation to execution.
Planned in two phases, the programme commenced with its first phase on January 17, 2026, with the second phase scheduled for mid-February. The first phase was conducted at Rajkiya Kanya Madhya Vidyalaya, Bodh Gaya, and M.S. Basadhi, Bodh Gaya.
The sessions focused on menstrual hygiene awareness through interactive talks, quizzes, and activities, encouraging students to ask questions and address misconceptions. A nukkad natak (street play) highlighted social stereotypes and challenges faced by women. Sharing her experience, a student noted that the initiative helped normalise conversations around menstruation and foster greater understanding. School authorities appreciated the initiative and its role in promoting awareness at the school level and contributing to the gradual dismantling of societal taboos.
The activities concluded with a sanitary pad distribution drive, during which 4,800 sanitary pad units were distributed. This initiative reaffirmed IIM Bodh Gaya’s commitment to impactful and community-driven social engagement. By empowering young girls with knowledge and resources, the institute continues to plant seeds of change for a healthier and more inclusive future.
