New “Vision” for Gaya : Pragati & Lenskart’s 3-Day Eye Screening Camp.

Bodh Gaya, September 25, 2025: Pragati: the CSR Committee of IIM Bodh Gaya in partnership with the Lenskart Foundation, successfully wrapped up a three-day eye screening camp across four villages in Gaya district. The initiative, held from 17–19 September 2025, visited Turi Khurd, Bapunagar, Mahudar and Turi Buzurg to deliver free eye care and raise awareness about vision health in the rural hinterland.

Over the three days, more than 800 villagers received free eye check-ups. Those diagnosed with vision impairments will receive free corrective glasses shortly, ensuring immediate and tangible benefit from the outreach. The camp was implemented through the innovative Drishti Didi model, where trained local women carried out preliminary screenings, helping bridge the gap between clinical services and community needs while building local leadership and awareness.

The programme was conducted under the guidance of Prof. Vinita Sahay, Director, IIM Bodh Gaya, with Prof. Suresh K. G. (Chairperson, CSR Committee) and Prof. Ajith Tom James (Co-Chairperson, CSR Committee) providing academic and logistical support. The Lenskart Foundation’s active involvement from clinical staff to equipment and follow-up logistics was central to the smooth execution of the camps.

“At IIM Bodh Gaya, we believe in creating social impact alongside academic excellence. This collaboration with Lenskart Foundation is a step toward building healthier and more empowered rural communities,” said Prof. Suresh K. G., highlighting the Committee’s commitment to community-centred outreach. The camp addressed immediate eye-care needs and focused on preventive education, explaining when and how to seek help, and demystifying simple vision care practices.

The human impact behind the numbers was clear: an elderly participant summed it up simply, “Earlier, I couldn’t see distant objects clearly. After the checkup, I realised how important timely treatment is. Having this facility right here in our village means a lot to us.” Such moments, the surprise at clearer vision, the relief of knowing help is nearby, are exactly why Pragati prioritises health drives that are both effective and accessible.

Beyond clinical outcomes, the camp amplified women’s participation through the Drishti Didi initiative. Local women who were trained to perform preliminary screenings became ambassadors of eye health in their communities, raising awareness, encouraging neighbours to attend checks, and helping to de-stigmatise visits to health camps.

Pragati and the Lenskart Foundation extend their gratitude to the people of Turi Khurd, Bapunagar, Mahudar and Turi Buzurg for their warm reception, and to everyone who volunteered their time and expertise. With this successful camp behind them, both partners reaffirm their commitment to continuing healthcare outreach and community empowerment across the region, one clear pair of eyes at a time.
