Samatvam is the concept of equanimity or ‘evenness of mind’. It is a state of equilibrium where one develops an inward tranquillity and attains the stability of the mind. Samatvam is the ability to remain serene and equipoise in the face of triumphs and tribulations. It is the skill of waltzing through the journey of life, patiently and joyfully, with a dispassionate regard for success and failure, gain and loss, pleasure and pain. Samatvam – The Mindfulness Centre at IIM Bodh Gaya aims to develop mindful business leaders by integrating self-awareness and environmental consciousness into business education. Samatvam fosters introspection and mental mastery to lead purposeful lives in a rapidly transforming world filled with challenges and opportunities. The centre organizes various initiatives to nurture mindfulness, such as Mindfulness Day and World Mindfulness Month, which feature engaging activities like open dialogues exploring themes of positive thinking and mindfulness through stories such as Inside Out 2, photography competitions, childhood nostalgia reflections, tree meditation, and meditative drawing to foster creativity and self-awareness. Every Friday, Bodhi Pravah – a weekly mindfulness session – is conducted, helping participants explore different meditation techniques to calm the mind and enhance emotional well-being. Rahein, a student-driven buddy system, provides a safe space for emotional support, while regular workshops on mental health and stress management equip participants with practical tools to maintain balance. IRCM, the International Research Conference on Mindfulness, brings together global researchers and practitioners to discuss mindfulness’s science, practice, and applications. Additionally, Nirvaan, a collaborative initiative with Pragati – The CSR Committee of IIM Bodhgaya, empowers underprivileged children by teaching mindfulness and mental health practices, enabling them to lead peaceful lives. Samatvam continues to build a compassionate, mindful, and resilient community.
