National Sports Day 2026: Soaring Through Sport, Striving Beyond Limits
IIM Bodh Gaya celebrated National Sports Day 2026 from 26th to 30th August at its very own Udaan Sports Complex. Marking the birth anniversary of Major Dhyan Chand, National Sports Day celebrates the values that sport embodies, including discipline, perseverance, teamwork and sportsmanship. To mark the occasion, IIM Bodh Gaya organised a series of sports activities that encouraged students to participate, embrace an active lifestyle and experience the spirit of healthy competition and team bonding.
The five-day sports event saw the participation of 400+ students across six boards, with students competing across a series of sporting events. The event commenced with cricket, followed by closely contested matches that saw determination on the field and strong support from fellow students.
The activities extended beyond competitive fixtures with a cycling activity on Sunday, where Dr. Vinita S. Sahay, Director, IIM Bodh Gaya, joined students in promoting fitness and active living. The initiative also reinforced the vision of a greener, cleaner and pollution-free campus. A friendly Faculty vs Students Kabaddi match added to the sporting spirit, with participants competing alongside each other on the field. Beyond the score, the match celebrated Kabaddi and India’s traditional sporting culture, while providing an opportunity for interaction and camaraderie.
The tournament concluded with the Women’s Throwball Final on 30th August. The team Bhagat’s Battalion emerged as the winner of National Sports Day 2026.
Beyond the results, the programme highlighted the values that sport fosters, from resilience and teamwork to sportsmanship. The energy on the field reflected the active sports culture at IIM Bodh Gaya.
With Udaan symbolising the spirit of rising higher and moving beyond boundaries, National Sports Day 2026 brought this ethos into focus through fitness, participation and collective sporting experiences.
