Waterman at IIM Bodh Gaya


IIM Bodh Gaya fraternity was honoured to have Dr. Rajendra Singh as its guest of honour in the inauguration ceremony of its annual fest Eleganté. Dr. Singh is a water conservationist and popularly known as Jal Purush or Water man; he hails from Rajasthan, India. At IIM Bodh Gaya, he motivated the gathering to focus on water conservation which would lead to the development of Gaya region with potential benefits in decreasing temperature and increased agri-produce.

The pioneering efforts of Dr. Singh in water harvesting and management have led to the revival of 5 rivers and brought water to over 1,000 villages in Rajasthan. Currently, he is running an NGO called 'Tarun Bharat Sangh' (TBS) with around 300 employees and volunteers. He and his NGO workers use several methods like Johad, Storage tanks, Check dams and other simple to path-breaking ideas. For his great work to the community welfare, he has been awarded with Stockholm Water Prize Which is known as Nobel Prize for Water and the Ramon Magsaysay Award in the year 2001.
